Project description

The objective of this project is to design an input interaction that the user would understand and relate to intuitively.

Timeline

3 Weeks

Mentor

Prof. Shimmila Bhowmick, SOD, IIT Jodhpur

Background

The course outlines existing interaction methods and prompts the student to find a use case for their input interaction

Process

Process

Process

We took up sight as our theme, and hence wanted to design something for low-vision individuals

Secondary research

Looked up existing novel interaction methods, types of accessibility issues with low vision, types of low vision.

Primary Research

We spoke with low vision individuals to find out their experiences with VR. And interacted with over 20 people to finalise an intuitive interaction using the Wizard of Oz method.

Video Prototype

We created a video prototype using ShapesXR

Solution

Solution

Solution

The solution was a novel input interaction to aid low vision users to magnify a PDF
in Virtual Reality.

Intuitiveness

We asked 20+ people of varying age groups how they would magnify objects

Ease of Use

Seamless integration with popular calendar platforms such as Google Calendar and Outlook, ensuring synchronized scheduling across devices.

User Interviews with Wizard of Oz Technique

Finalized Interaction

We decided to go ahead with this interaction based on the inputs we received from the users.

Accessibility

The 2 hand interaction requires only basic hand tracking, with low accuracy for the fingers. The single hand interaction was also included to make it more accessible to various user groups.

Intuitive across age groups

We ensured our user testing group included a large variety of people, including elderly people who are not as familiar with technology, young house wives, and youngsters proficient in technology.

Excited for the future!

We hope this study can go further in the future, to a time when technology improves further and such ideas can be implemented to make life better.
