Background
As part of our course, we first went through 5 MR games to understand how they were made. We used this knowledge to conceptualize a game of our own.
This is how I contributed to the project:
Idea Generation
I was part of the ideation team and helped refine the idea the game would be based on: a strategy based game where the user would grab flying airplanes around them based on how much fuel each plane has and land it by throwing it to nearby runways (mapped onto horizontal surfaces)
Video Prototyping
Collaborated with team mates to create an onboarding video before the gameplay to give more context to the user.
Video prototype of the MR game. The game starts with an airplane flying from the virtual sky (ceiling). The user catches it and throws it to the runway mapped onto
the nearest table.
Progressive difficulty
As the user completes each level, difficulty increases in the form of more number of airplanes, faster fuel depletion, runway congestion, etc.
Aim and throw
The user is required to find the best force with which to throw and aim in the right direction for the airplane to land successfully.
What I learnt through this project
On-boarding
I realized the importance of proper on-boarding and setting the context for the user before starting the experience.
Gameification & User Attention
A gamified experience with varying levels of difficulty that gives the user a sense of progress lets you keep the user engrossed in the experience.
